“Carnivale” is the title of the second album by The Hawks Triad, an Argentine/Swiss trio founded in 2021 by Argentine guitarist and keyboardist Luciano Ponzano and Swiss drummer Adrian Böckli, and which is completed with Swiss musician Gregory Schärer in charge of the bass duties. The album, recorded in two days during the summer of 2022 in Winterthur, displays a group whose music is strongly rooted in jazz while seamlessly exploring diverse genres such as rock, surf-rock, blues, funk, and even indie, without sounding heterogeneous. In a carnival, people dress in costumes and masks to set aside their individuality and experience a heightened sense of unity. The Hawks Triad takes this idea and effortlessly translates it into music, merging all influences, experiences, and different backgrounds of their integrants selflessly into a group identity.

Carnivale has been released on the internationally acclaimed label Unit Records and was purposely recorded with all band members performing together in one room, with almost no effects and little overdubs. The new music of The Hawks Triad sounds subtle, yet focused. Virtuosic, but not flashy. Raw but delicate. A tangible sense of sincerity, flow, relaxation, freshness, and animosity abound in all the pieces, making this record one to sit to and listen, and to let the music take you on a road trip through all the different landscapes that lie inside a Carnival.
